The River at Rancho Mirage: Waterfront Dining & a Desert Night Out

Watercolor illustration of The River at Rancho Mirage, with waterfront buildings and reflections.

The River at Rancho Mirage is an open-air dining, cinema and entertainment center built around a waterfront setting on Highway 111. Its strongest use is not as an all-day attraction. It works best as an easy anchor for dinner and a movie, an escape-room outing, coffee or dessert, or a low-planning evening in Rancho Mirage.

The River at a glance

  • Location: 71-800 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage
  • Best for: Dinner and a movie, a casual group outing, date night or an indoor-outdoor break
  • Main anchors: Century Theatres, restaurants, Escape Games at The River and specialty shops
  • Seasonal consideration: Most circulation is outdoors, while the cinema, restaurants and businesses are indoors
  • Before you go: Verify individual business hours and movie showtimes; center listings can change

Choose your outing

Dinner and a movie

This is the clearest reason to choose The River. Century Theatres has 15 auditoriums, including an XD auditorium, reclining seats, mobile concession ordering, a Cinema Café and beer and wine service. Check current movie times first, then make a restaurant reservation that leaves room for parking, walking and ticket pickup.

A group activity followed by food

Escape Games at The River gives families, friends and work groups a scheduled activity that can be paired with a meal. Book the activity directly with the operator and confirm age, accessibility and group-size rules before building the rest of the evening around it.

Coffee, dessert or an unhurried walk

If you do not need a full meal, the current directory includes Cheers Coffee, Ben & Jerry’s and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. The waterfront walkways make this a simple stop before or after another Rancho Mirage activity, particularly when temperatures are comfortable.

Current restaurants and treats

The official directory currently lists P.F. Chang’s, Yard House, The Cheesecake Factory and Sushi Kawa among the full-service restaurants. Because restaurant participation, opening hours and reservation systems can change, use The River’s current restaurant directory rather than relying on an older tenant list.

For the easiest experience, choose the primary purpose of the visit first. A movie has a fixed start time; a restaurant may require a reservation; an escape room requires its own booking. Let that fixed commitment determine everything else.

Shopping and services

The River is not a conventional enclosed mall. Its current mix is smaller and experience-led. The official directory includes Hats Unlimited, COCO LULU, Mirage Cigar Lounge, Escape Games and a Tesla Supercharger station. If a particular store is the reason for your visit, confirm it directly before driving over.

Seasonal and event planning

The waterfront and open-air walkways are especially pleasant during the Coachella Valley’s milder months and in the evening. During hotter periods, treat the outdoor portions as transitions between air-conditioned destinations and avoid planning a long midday stroll.

The River sometimes hosts seasonal programs and special events, but an event page may retain older listings. Verify the date, year and organizer before making a trip for a particular event. Holiday décor or programming can add to an outing, but it should be considered a seasonal bonus rather than a guaranteed feature.

Practical planning

  • Check the cinema schedule and the chosen restaurant or activity separately.
  • Allow extra time when a film, event or holiday period creates overlapping crowds.
  • For mobility or sensory needs, contact the specific business because conditions differ by venue.
  • Use the center’s current directory to confirm tenant status before making a special trip.

Start with The River’s official website. To place the stop in a larger itinerary, see our Rancho Mirage guide and Desert Cities overview.
