Palm Springs International Airport: Flights, Parking and Ground Transportation

ARRIVE IN THE DESERT WITH A PLAN

Palm Springs International Airport: Flights, Parking and Ground Transportation

Palm Springs International Airport, known by its airport code PSP, puts travelers close to downtown Palm Springs and within practical reach of the rest of the Coachella Valley. Its open-air character can make arrival feel like part of the vacation, but seasonal flight schedules and busy event weekends still reward a little planning.

Start with the decision that shapes the trip

The most useful question is not simply how to leave the airport. It is whether you need a car after you leave. A downtown stay built around restaurants, museums, nightlife and pool time may work well with a taxi or rideshare. A trip that includes Indian Canyons, the Aerial Tramway, golf, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta or Joshua Tree usually benefits from a rental car or carefully planned transportation.

  • Staying downtown and keeping the itinerary compact: compare taxi and rideshare costs before renting a car.
  • Exploring several desert cities: a rental car usually provides the most flexibility.
  • Attending a conference: check whether the hotel offers transportation or whether the venue is walkable.
  • Visiting during Coachella, Stagecoach, Pride or another major event: reserve transportation early.

Flights change with the season

PSP serves year-round and seasonal routes, and the mix expands during the desert’s busier fall and winter travel periods. Do not rely on an old route list. Use the airport’s official airlines and destinations page for current service, then confirm the exact itinerary with the airline.

Parking at PSP

The main parking lot sits directly across from the terminal. During peak periods, an overflow lot may open with free shuttle service. The airport publishes current availability and rates on its parking and transportation page. Parking is limited to 30 consecutive days, and payment options differ between the main and overflow lots.

Rideshare, taxis and public transportation

Uber and Lyft use a designated pickup area at the south end of the terminal’s commercial lane. Taxis pick up outside baggage claim. SunLine stops are a short walk from the terminal, while Amtrak Thruway and Basin Transit provide connections for selected regional trips. Public transportation can be useful, but luggage, heat and service frequency should be considered before choosing it.

Rental cars and carshare

PSP lists both on-airport and off-airport rental companies, plus permitted carshare service. Compare total price, pickup location, fuel or charging needs, parking costs and cancellation terms rather than looking only at the headline daily rate. If you are still deciding, use our Palm Springs Without a Car guide.

Before you leave for the airport

  • Check live flight status with the airline and PSP.
  • Review the official terminal map for gates, dining and services.
  • Allow extra time during major festival, holiday and convention periods.
  • Confirm rental-car return instructions before the final morning.
  • If you need a meal nearby, see where to eat near Palm Springs Airport.

Last source check: September 2026. Routes, rates, construction conditions and transportation services can change.
