Classic Car Events in the Desert: Auctions, Shows, and Cruise Nights

Watercolor of a red convertible and turquoise classic car beneath desert palms.

A classic-car outing in the desert can mean watching a vehicle cross an auction block, talking with an owner beside a parked car, or seeing a line of vintage machines cruise a boulevard. Those are three different experiences, and choosing the right format matters more than finding the largest event.

Palm Springs and Palm Desert both belong in the search, but they are different cities. Start with the event address and the kind of afternoon or evening you want.

📅 Classic Car Outings: Dates and Locations

  • McCormick’s: Nov. 20–22, 2026, at Palm Springs Convention Center. See the auction schedule and spectator admission.
  • El Paseo Cruise Night: Palm Desert; select dates in the November–April season. Check the next cruise date and participation details.
  • Choose your format: Auction viewing, parked-car browsing, and cruising have different access arrangements.

McCormick’s Car Auction: Watching the Auction Block

McCormick’s Palm Springs Car Auction is the place to look if you want cars and the momentum of a live auction. Its recurring Palm Springs auctions have traditionally taken place in February and November.

Spectator admission and bidder registration serve different purposes. You can plan a visit around browsing and watching without taking part in the sale. If a particular car interests you, use the lot schedule to understand when it is expected to cross the block.

The current organizer schedule places the auction at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Do not navigate to the business’s permanent office address and assume it is the event entrance.

Our dedicated McCormick’s guide explains how to organize a spectator visit and what aspiring buyers need to research separately.

El Paseo Cruise Night: Classic Cars and an Evening Out

El Paseo Cruise Night adds a different format in Palm Desert. The boulevard setting can make it appealing to people who want cars as one part of an evening that also includes shopping or dinner.

Use the organizer’s current calendar for the next event. Do not assume that every Friday is a cruise night or that a date from a previous season repeats automatically.

If you plan to bring a vehicle, read the registration instructions. If you are coming to watch, find out where spectators should gather and where ordinary visitor parking is available. A display or staging area is not necessarily public parking.

Car Auctions vs. Cruise Nights: Choosing Your Experience

For browsing, prioritize a format that gives you time around parked cars. You may enjoy details that disappear when a vehicle is moving: upholstery, dashboards, badges, and the way an owner has restored or modified a car.

For live action, an auction can provide a clear focal point. Look at the schedule before arriving so you can combine browsing with time near the block.

For participation, find out the vehicle criteria, arrival time, and entry process. “Open to the public” describes audience access; it does not automatically mean any car can join the display or cruise.

Planning a Car Outing for a Mixed-Interest Group

If one person is the enthusiast and another is accompanying them, agree on the scale of the outing. A short car stop followed by dinner is a different commitment from most of a day at an auction.

Bring what you need for the conditions, and allow for time on foot. Ask before touching a car or leaning into a display. Owners and sellers may welcome questions, but each vehicle is someone’s property.

Checking Event Dates, Locations, and Admission

Keep the organizer’s listing handy and recheck the day, location, entry arrangements, and any weather notices before leaving.

For Palm Desert, our El Paseo guide can help round out the outing. For Palm Springs, the downtown dining guide offers a way to pair an auction visit with a meal. The annual events collection provides the wider seasonal context when cars are one part of a longer desert trip.
