Breakfast and Brunch in Palm Springs

Watercolor illustration of friends sharing brunch on a sunny Palm Springs patio

Breakfast in Palm Springs can be fuel before a trail, a long patio brunch, a bakery stop, or the main event after a late night. The right choice depends as much on timing and weather as it does on the menu.

Choose the breakfast that fits the day

Early and substantial

Billy Reed’s and Sherman’s are useful starting points when a broad menu, familiar breakfast choices, and a less precious pace matter. Both are established restaurants rather than grab-and-go counters.

A slower brunch

Patio restaurants and hotel dining rooms work best when the meal itself is part of the itinerary. Spencer’s has a distinct setting near the Palm Springs Tennis Club, while 4 Saints offers a rooftop context at the Kimpton Rowan. Service days, meal periods, and reservation availability differ, so check before planning around either.

Coffee and something quick

If the goal is to reach the Tramway, a canyon, the airport, or an event on time, prioritize location and speed. A popular brunch room can be the wrong choice when waiting for a table consumes the best outdoor hour.

Plan around the desert

Before hiking: choose a meal that leaves enough time for the trail and the drive to its actual access point. Carry water even when breakfast feels leisurely.

During hot weather: early outdoor seating can feel completely different from late-morning seating. Confirm shade and cooling rather than assuming a patio is comfortable.

On major-event weekends: reserve the meal that anchors the day and keep a second option nearby.

With a mixed-age group: check stairs, restroom access, noise, table spacing, and the walk from parking. Rooftop atmosphere and easy access are not always the same thing.

A useful first shortlist

Billy Reed’s: broad classic menu, bakery, and North Palm Canyon location.

Sherman’s: deli, bakery, breakfast, brunch, and two desert locations.

Spencer’s: a more deliberate meal in a garden and tennis-club setting.

4 Saints: downtown rooftop dining, best treated as a planned reservation rather than an automatic breakfast stop.

The shortlist is a planning framework, not a ranking. Additional restaurants will be added after their current meal service and operating status are confirmed.

What to do after brunch

Walk downtown, visit the Palm Springs Art Museum, continue to the Aerial Tramway, or choose an indoor afternoon from Things to Do.
