The Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, is a focused place to explore the city’s design history. Its restored bank building is part of the experience, alongside changing exhibitions that put desert architecture into context.
It is a separate venue at 300 S. Palm Canyon Drive, not the main museum on Museum Drive. Use the address and opening days below to plan the right stop, especially if you are combining it with an architecture tour or downtown meal.

📍 Architecture and Design Center at a Glance
- Location: 300 S. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs.
- Hours: Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed: Monday through Wednesday, except any separately announced special access.
- Admission: The museum currently lists general admission at $25, seniors 62 and older at $23, and students and teachers at $17. General admission covers the main museum and this center.
- Free hours: Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. Check eligibility for other free-admission categories on the visitor page.
- Tickets and updates: Use the center’s official visitor page for current admission, opening notices, and the Buy Tickets link.
As a planning suggestion, leave about an hour for the exhibition and building, with more time if you want a docent tour. Your pace will depend on the material on view and how closely you want to study it.
Why the Former Bank Is Part of the Visit
E. Stewart Williams designed the building in 1961 for Santa Fe Federal Savings and Loan. Its glass-and-steel form, restored terrazzo floor, and shading screens make it useful to look at the architecture before settling into the exhibition.
The rehabilitation by Marmol Radziner retained the original bank-vault area, now used for the Vault Store. Rather than treating the shop as an unrelated souvenir stop, look at how a working part of the bank has been adapted to a museum use.
📅 Current Exhibition: Alternative Palm Springs
Alternative Palm Springs: Other Desert Architectures explores experiments alongside the city’s familiar modernist legacy, including unbuilt proposals, counterculture design, and spaces created by the LGBTQ+ community. The museum describes models, drawings, photographs, and objects drawn from its holdings and other local collections.
- Published exhibition run: June 27, 2026 to Jan. 4, 2027.
- Location: Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion.
- Planning note: Exhibition dates are not a daily opening schedule. Use the center’s Thursday-through-Sunday hours, and confirm any special final-day arrangements.
- Exhibition details: Read the museum’s Alternative Palm Springs page.
That gives the visit a broader question than “Which famous house should I photograph?” Look for how proposed buildings and less familiar communities complicate the usual version of Palm Springs design history.
Docent Tours and Architecture Programs
The museum publishes a current-exhibition docent tour page and describes the tour as included with admission, subject to volunteer availability. Confirm the session for your date before planning around it; the tour page and visitor-hours page are not perfectly aligned.
Check the current exhibition tour information or contact the center at 760-423-5260. Arrive with enough time to check in, and ask about the format if you need seating or other accommodations.
📅 A Listed Architecture Talk
- Date: Oct. 17, 2026.
- Hours: 10 to 11 a.m.
- Program: Alternative Palm Springs: Hugh Kaptur’s Unbuilt Work.
- Location and booking: Use the event listing linked from the official event page to confirm the venue, admission requirements, and availability.
A talk and an ordinary gallery visit may involve different entry arrangements. Check the event itself rather than assuming a museum admission ticket reserves a seat.
The Vault Store
The store occupies the original bank-vault area and focuses on architecture and design books, stationery, jewelry, and other objects. It can be a worthwhile final stop after the exhibition rather than the reason to rush past it.
If shopping is your primary purpose, confirm store access and hours directly. Gallery tickets and store arrangements should not be assumed interchangeable.
Pair the Center With a Design-Focused Day
For a compact outing, visit the exhibition and then choose a nearby lunch or early dinner from our downtown dining guide. For more architecture, use the tour guide to compare neighborhood walks, coach tours, and self-guided options.

For a longer museum day, compare the center’s visit with the main Palm Springs Art Museum and Aluminaire House. The museum sites have different experiences even when their opening hours coincide. Aluminaire House is an exterior exhibit; the museum does not permit interior access.
Accessibility and Arrival
Ask the museum about the route from your parking location, the exhibition layout, seating, and any guided-tour requirements. A restored building with an elevator can still involve different arrangements for a gallery visit, a talk, or a trip to another museum site.
Use the center’s own visitor page for contact information and directions. If you book a separate architecture tour, follow that operator’s meeting address rather than using the museum address by default.
