McCallum Theatre: Music, Theater & a Night Out

McCallum Theatre is Palm Desert’s 1,100-seat performing arts center, presenting Broadway productions, music, dance, comedy, lectures and community programs. It is an event-led destination: the useful way to plan a visit is to begin with the exact performance, then confirm its ticket, content, timing and venue rules.

McCallum Theatre at a glance

  • Location: 73-000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert
  • Best for: Broadway, classical music, dance, jazz, comedy, cabaret, lectures and holiday performances
  • Arrival: The theatre recommends arriving about 20 minutes before showtime
  • Doors: Lobby doors generally open one hour before the performance; seating opens about 30 minutes before
  • Parking: Free parking surrounds the theatre; paid valet is offered at the south entrance
  • Before you go: Buy through the official theatre site and read the exact production page

Buy from the theatre, not a reseller

McCallum warns that unauthorized ticket sellers can appear prominently in search results and may charge inflated prices or sell invalid tickets. Purchase through McCallumTheatre.org or the official box office. Direct purchasers also have the clearest options if a performance is cancelled or postponed.

All sales are generally final, and service fees apply. Artists, dates, times and prices can change. Review the current policy before purchase rather than relying on an older season brochure.

Choose the right performance

The theatre presents a broad season rather than one type of show. Check run time, intermission, age guidance and any production-specific restrictions. Most performances last two to three hours, but the exact schedule comes from the production.

Every guest requires a ticket regardless of age, and children under five are discouraged. Some events provide stronger age or content recommendations. Photography and recording are ordinarily prohibited, while a particular artist may impose additional phone restrictions.

Arrival, late seating and comfort

Late arrivals may wait in the lobby until an appropriate pause, which is determined by the production. Arriving 20 minutes ahead gives time for parking, security, ticket questions and seating without disrupting the performance.

There is no formal dress code beyond shirts and shoes. Business casual is common, but comfort is appropriate. The auditorium can feel cool to some guests, so a light layer is useful.

Parking and access

Free parking is available around the venue, with disabled-parking spaces on the west side and paid valet at the Fred Waring entrance. Observe posted restrictions on neighboring College of the Desert property.

Wheelchair-accessible seating is available on each level, along with aisle and no-stair options. A wireless listening system is available, with complimentary headsets checked out in the lobby in exchange for identification. Contact the box office before purchase when seating or service-animal needs affect the choice of seats.

Refreshments and bags

Lobby bars sell drinks and light snacks, and selected performances offer intermission pre-ordering. Outside food and drink are not allowed. Large bags, backpacks and totes are subject to search, and the theatre does not provide bag storage. Check current rules before arriving with anything that may need to be returned to a vehicle.

Seasonal reasons to visit

The theatre season is strongest from fall through spring and commonly includes holiday programming, touring Broadway, music, dance and lectures. Summer box-office hours are more limited. A particular performance is always date-specific, so this guide treats seasons as orientation rather than an event calendar.

Performance-day checklist

  1. Open the official production page and confirm the date, time and content guidance.
  2. Use the theatre’s direct ticket link.
  3. Check bag, phone, camera and late-seating policies.
  4. Contact the box office in advance for accessible seating or other accommodations.
  5. Plan to arrive about 20 minutes before showtime.

Use the official McCallum Theatre website, first-time guest guide and directions page. For local context, see our Palm Desert guide.
