Tennis in Indian Wells: Where to Play, Book Lessons, and Watch the Pros

Indian Wells is best known for the BNP Paribas Open, but watching professional tennis and booking time on court are two different plans. The Indian Wells Tennis Garden offers club programs and instruction; resort courts and public parks provide other ways to fit a match into a desert trip. Start with the kind of experience you want, then confirm access before heading over.

Choose Your Tennis Plan

  • For lessons or a clinic: contact the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Pro Shop and ask about the program that fits your level.
  • For regular play: compare club membership options and the current court reservation process.
  • For a resort stay: confirm whether tennis is available to hotel guests, day visitors, or lesson clients.
  • For a public-court outing: check the park’s current court layout, hours, and reservation rules.
  • For professional tennis: buy BNP Paribas Open tickets separately from any club or court booking.

Indian Wells Tennis Garden: Lessons, Clinics, and Club Access

The Tennis Garden is at 78-200 Miles Ave. in Indian Wells. Its official programs include adult instruction, junior programs, and wheelchair tennis. Adult lessons have member and nonmember pricing, while clinics are organized around playing level. A tournament ticket does not reserve a court or enroll you in a lesson.

  • 📍 Location: Indian Wells Tennis Garden, 78-200 Miles Ave., Indian Wells.
  • 🎾 Programs: review adult lessons and clinics, or browse all tennis programs.
  • ☎ Booking help: call the Pro Shop at 760-200-8200 to confirm the appropriate clinic, lesson availability, and signup instructions.

How to Set Up a Lesson or Clinic

Before calling, have your preferred dates, group size, and approximate level ready. If you do not know your rating, describe how often you play and whether you can rally, serve, and keep score. Ask whether the session accepts nonmembers, what equipment is available, and when payment is due. Confirm cancellation terms and the exact meeting point when the booking is made.

Use the official adult program page to choose a starting point, then verify the live schedule with the Pro Shop. Seasonal clinic timetables can change, especially around tournament operations.

Membership and Finding a Hitting Partner

For repeat visits, the club’s membership page lists individual, couple, family, and seasonal options. Compare current fees, access dates, and reservation rules with the number of sessions you expect to play. Membership and tournament admission are separate purchases.

The Tennis Garden’s game-arranging service is a member resource that uses playing ratings to help organize matches. Ask the Pro Shop about eligibility and how to join the roster; visitors should not assume a drop-in opponent will be available.

Resort Tennis and Public Courts

La Quinta Resort and Club

La Quinta Resort offers tennis instruction, clinics, and court play, with reservations required. Contact the Tennis Shop at 760-564-7655 or use the resort’s tennis information page to review the current options. Confirm guest eligibility, court fees, lesson pricing, and whether equipment rental is included before booking.

Palm Desert and Palm Springs Parks

Palm Desert’s Civic Center Park, at 73510 Fred Waring Drive, is another place to check for court access. The Desert Recreation District park page provides facilities and contact information. Confirm the current tennis layout and any court reservation or program requirements rather than relying on older court counts.

In Palm Springs, Ruth Hardy Park and Demuth Park offer racquet-sport facilities. Use the city’s parks directory and Parks and Recreation pages to check the current facilities, hours, and booking contacts. Tennis and pickleball allocations can change, so check the specific park before bringing a group.

If your trip centers on a guest-only wellness retreat, see our Sensei Porcupine Creek guide and confirm tennis access directly as part of the stay.

BNP Paribas Open 2027: Dates and Tickets

  • 📅 Dates: Feb. 28, 2027–March 14, 2027, as listed by the tournament organizer.
  • 📍 Venue: Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells.
  • 🎟 Tickets: use the official BNP Paribas Open ticket page for the available ticket types and purchase process.

Choose a session or ticket package based on whether you want a particular stadium experience or a broader day at the grounds. Read the included access before purchasing. Check the tournament website for the schedule, entry policies, parking, and accessibility information as your visit approaches. Club play and lessons may operate differently during event preparation and tournament dates.

Make Court Time Easier

Ask about morning or later-day availability, then plan around the actual weather forecast and your comfort in the heat. Bring water, sun protection, appropriate shoes, and a backup plan if conditions or court availability change. Allow travel time from your hotel: Indian Wells and La Quinta are separate destinations from downtown Palm Springs.

For a mixed itinerary, pair tennis with El Paseo shopping and dining in nearby Palm Desert. Keep the court booking as the fixed appointment and arrange the rest of the day around it.
